Many core exercises you see performed at your local gym are causing more harm than good.
For example, the ab crunch machine is placing your spine in a hyper flexed position, causing compressive forces on your discs which may cause damage to the discs themselves or the nerves running from your spine to your extremities. Maintaining a fixed position in your midsection while moving your limbs is the proper way to train your core muscles.
Just think about it… Why would we train ourselves to be in a flexed position when we walk and play sports or exercise in a position of posture?!
We throw upright… We kick upright… We run upright… So we need to train our body to be strong and stable in an upright position.
The dead bug progression allows us to this!
